My Story

At Be Active With Alison, I began my journey with a simple goal: to help people live healthier, happier, and more active lives through engaging fitness classes and personalized support. This transformation started after my own experience of being overweight, unfit, and unhealthy, which led me to pursue a healthier and more active lifestyle while still enjoying the foods I love, socializing, and trying activities I once thought were impossible. 


Although I'm not yet at my ultimate goal, I'm far from the place I never want to return to. I've realized that achieving lasting change isn't a quick fix; it's about adopting a lifestyle choice. I have committed to transforming the way I live, and I have never looked back since. 


As I progressed on my journey, I evolved into someone who genuinely enjoys exercising and being active. I am passionate about supporting others through personal training programs and weight loss coaching, helping them reach their own fitness aspirations.

Weight Loss

Are you overweight and struggle with self-confidence? Have you tried slimming classes, restrictive food plans, detoxes, and what feels like every fad diet going? Have you lost weight, been hungry all the time, craved foods you're not allowed, and then put it all or more back on after you gave up? 


ME TOO!


That all changed when I started my own fitness journey and lost over 40 pounds. Now, I want to help you achieve your goals through effective weight loss coaching. I finally found a way that suited me—a sustainable approach to losing weight that helped me build a healthy relationship with food. I also discovered a love for exercise and being active, including engaging in fitness classes. 


If I can do it, so can you.


I can support you in your weight loss journey, not with faddy or restrictive diets but with calorie counting that allows you to enjoy all the foods and drinks you love (in moderation). Together, we can discover a healthy relationship with food that fosters habits lasting a lifetime. I can work out your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the minimum number of calories you need to maintain essential body functions like breathing, digestion, and blood flow. I can also calculate your safe and sustainable calorie deficit. (Please avoid the numbers provided by calorie counting apps, as they are often too low.) 


You will need a calorie counting app, such as Nutracheck or My Fitness Pal, at your own cost.

Being Active

Being active doesn't just mean going for a run or joining a gym. It can involve those options if that's your preference, but there are countless enjoyable, easy, and sometimes free ways to keep active. Consider going for a walk, doing some gardening, or joining a walking group or an exercise class. What's important is that you maintain an active lifestyle. The saying 'use it or lose it' rings true, especially as we age. I love the confidence that comes from weight loss coaching and getting fit through various activities. 


Now, in my 50s, I'm engaging in activities I've always wanted to try in my younger days. Instead of joining in with friends and family, I used to make excuses and watch them have fun. 


I can help you discover enjoyable activities or rediscover past interests. Together, we can create realistic and achievable personal training programs tailored to your preferences. You're more likely to stick with something if you enjoy it. 


You can also attend my fitness classes or small group sessions for an additional cost. Exercising can be more enjoyable with like-minded individuals. To track your progress, you'll need a fitness tracker app such as Strava or My Fitness Pal at your own expense.

I've been there and done that, as the saying goes. I've tried every fad diet, food plan, detox, and fasting method, or at least it feels that way. But I finally found a way that suited me. I discovered a sustainable approach to lose weight that helped me build a healthy relationship with food. I also developed a love for exercise and being active. I understand how hard it is to lose weight, keep it off, change habits, and stay fit, healthy, and active, which is why I now offer personal training programs tailored to individual needs.

I decided I wanted to help people like me. Being active doesn't just mean going for a run or joining a gym—although fitness classes can be a great option if that's your thing. There are countless enjoyable and sometimes free ways to stay active, like going for a walk, gardening, or joining a walking group or an exercise class. What's important is that you keep moving. I love the confidence that losing weight and getting fit and active has given me. Now, in my 50s, I'm doing activities I've always wanted to try in my younger days. Instead of making excuses and just watching friends and family have fun, I'm joining in.
